Ceramic Coating vs PPF: Which Protection Does Your Car Need?

1 December 2025

One of the most common questions we get at Ultra Shine Auto is: "Should I get ceramic coating or PPF?" The answer depends on your driving habits, budget, and what you want to protect against. Let's break it down.

What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your paint, creating a hydrophobic, UV-resistant, and scratch-resistant layer. It makes your car easier to wash, enhances gloss, and protects against chemical etching from bird droppings and tree sap. However, it won't protect against rock chips or deep scratches.

What is PPF?

Paint Protection Film is a thick, self-healing thermoplastic urethane film applied to high-impact areas. It absorbs rock chips, bug splatter, and minor abrasions. Premium films like XPEL Ultimate Plus even self-heal light scratches when exposed to heat.

Our Recommendation

For the best all-round protection, we recommend PPF on high-impact zones (bonnet, bumper, fenders, mirrors) combined with ceramic coating over the entire vehicle. This gives you impact resistance where you need it and hydrophobic ease-of-care everywhere else.
